Pair of traditional bedroom alcove cupboards with externals constructed from solid hardwood. Hand-painted in Farrow & Ball Pointing. Internal drawers crafted in solid oak, finished in oil.
In the 18th and 19th centuries built-in cupboards were often made from softwoods like pine, but that was when very large, slow-grown trees were being imported from places like Siberia. Nowadays softwoods are fast-grown for joinery rather than cabinetry, so hardwoods are a better option. We often use tulipwood as it is stable, finishes well and is relatively inexpensive as it is not that attractive if not painted.
